Children In Need
" Vulnerable children in Haiti are estimated at about 1,210,000 "
YOUNG GIRLS AT RISK
Roughly one in ten Haitian girls between the ages of 5 and 18 are separated from their parents in forced domestic servitude. Those girls are responsible for much of the running of the household; first to wake up in the morning and last to rest at night. Among their required chores are: Hand washing of the family's clothes, ironing, preparing of meals on open charcoal stove cleaning, caring for school-age children, including older kids, walking the children to school and carrying their heavy book bags, fetching gallons or buckets of water from a neighborhood well, and much more.
Often cases these girls are horribly exploited and abused. They are not paid and usually have no alternative to the treatment they receive by their masters.
Many Haitians still have no choice but to hand their young girls to domestic servitude because there are just too many mouths to feed at home. Seldom do they have the opportunity to attend school, receive adequate medical care, or receive the nutrition and nurture all children need.
No social skills and emotional development. Due to the harsh treatment, separation from family, lack of social network keeps them from getting help in rough economic and emotional times, and many become pregnant and are kicked out of the master's household and may end up in prostitution, due to hardship, their children may become second generation domestic.
YOUNG BOYS AT RISK
Thousands of boys are also serving as domestic in Haiti. These boys run away due to harsh treatment and are often end up as street orphans with no place and no one to call on. Hope Outreach International is convinced that it is our responsibility as fortunate ones to help the needy. We believe that education is crucial in solving this problem and many other problems in Haiti. Enabling children to develop spiritually, intellectually, and physically is the key to change in Haiti. We want and we must educate and nurture the children of Haiti so they can become independent, contributing citizens. Please partner with Hope Outreach International to help reach these at risk children in Haiti.
