Medical Clinic
After being hit by four hurricanes, Dr. Volcy and Suzette were on their way to visit the city of Gonaives and met the lady on the right with her sick daughter. Her daughter had been sick with a fever for 3 days. She had no means of transportation to a medical clinic or the money to pay for a taxi or medical fee. She walked for about 3 miles before she met the Volcys on the road. Having no more room in their rental vehicle, the Volcys paid a motor cycle taxi driver to drop the mother with her daughter to a clinic some distance away.
It was a vivid experience, because this is the life that millions of moms in Haiti are faced with everyday. It can be very difficult because physically they're not in good shape to walk all these miles while carrying a sick child. Dr. Volcy too has lost family members due to lack of medical care in Haiti that include his dad and his younger sister.
To the right is a picture of an infected foot of an older woman; because the infection went untreated, it caused her death.
While in Haiti not too long ago to facilitate a leadership training Dr. Volcy was visiting with families, to discover a 17 year old girl who gave birth prematurely at 7 months at home the night prior . It wasn't until 11:30 am the next day Dr. Volcy rushed the baby to a clinic. By the way no one new this young woman was pregnant until the night she gave birth. It means there was no prenatal care, or parenting class. People in Haiti are in dire need for medical care. Would you please help these precious people by joining Hope Outreach International provide medical care?
